Bayelsa Queens Players To Get N400,000 Each For Winning 2025 Premiership Title

Bayelsa Queens players have been rewarded with the sum of N400,000 each for winning the 2025 Nigeria Women’s Premiership title in Ikenne.

The Prosperity Girls emerged champions at the NWFL Super Six following a comprehensive 4-1 victory over Naija Ratels at the Remo Stars Stadium.

White Ogbonna’s side topped the group with 10 points from five games to win their sixth NWFL title in style.

Bayelsa Queens produced a commanding display to secure the title thanks to a brilliant hat-trick by Vera Samuel in the 28th, 61st, and 67th minutes, while Mega Cynthia added a fourth in the 47th minute. Tumininu Adeshina brought Naija Ratels level in the 42nd minute, but Bayelsa’s quality proved decisive.

The team’s coach, Whyte Ogbonna, hailed the players for their togetherness and patience on the pitch.

He said, “The spirit and togetherness on the pitch were amazing. It was all about being patient.

“I would like to thank the government of Bayelsa State for giving the team the enabling environment to thrive, and for sure, we are going to beef up the team as we have qualified for the CAF WAFU-B.”

Similarly, Bayelsa State Commissioner for Sports Development, Honourable Daniel Igali, showered encomiums on the team for their title-winning feat.

He said, “I want to praise the players for their exceptional skills, teamwork, and determination throughout the tournament. The performances reflect the hard work and dedication of the athletes, coaching staff, management, and everyone involved.

“This win solidifies their position as a top side and prepares them to give Nigeria a stronger representation at the continental level.

“I want to dedicate this trophy to the Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency Senator Douye Diri, and his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, for always matching words with action. This remarkable victory is a testament to the support we’ve enjoyed from their leadership.”

The final Super Six standings saw Bayelsa Queens on top with 10 points, followed by Nasarawa Amazons (9), Edo Queens (8), Rivers Angels (7), Remo Stars Ladies (7), and Naija Ratels (0), who finished without a point.

Bayelsa Queens received a ₦10m grand prize. Nasarawa Amazons earned ₦6 million as second-place finishers, while Edo Queens were rewarded with ₦4m. The remaining teams—Rivers Angels, Remo Stars, and Naija Ratels—each received ₦1.5m.

Jenat Akekeromowei of Nasarawa Amazons was named the Most Valuable Player of the season after scoring 13 goals, including four in the Super Six.

Remo Stars Ladies’ Bolaji Olamide finished as top scorer with 15 goals in 19 matches, while her teammate Charlotte Adjei was named best goalkeeper of the season.

The Prosperity Girls finished third in their last appearance at the CAF Women’s Champions League, and they will be hoping to go a step further when they represent Nigeria in the competition next season.
