Eagles Need Enyeama Back Victor Ikpeba Tells NFF

Ex-Super Eagles Forward Victor Ikpeba has called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), to recall former Eagles goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama to the national team ahead next year’s FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Enyeama retired from the senior national team in 2015, after a misunderstanding he had with the former Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh.

Ikpeba who played at the FIFA World Cups in 1994 and 1998 called on the NFF to reconsider the 35-year-old having been drawn with Argentina for the fifth time in the World Cup.

“This will be the fifth time Nigeria will face Argentina at the World Cup, we need Enyeama to fill that void in the goalkeeping department where there seems to be a bit of worry,” Ikpeba told Completesportsnigeria.com.

Other goalkeepers like the home based Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Dele Alampasu, Francis Uzoho and Daniel Akpeyi are yet to cement a place as the Super Eagles first choice.

“We should not get carried away by the win over Argentina in the friendly in Krasnodar. Our opening match is against Croatia so we stand a chance of getting through to the next round if our defence is well covered.”

Nigeria will face Croatia at the Kaliningrad Stadium in their opening Group D game on June 16th, Iceland at the Volgograd Arena on June 22nd and finally Argentina in their final group game on the 26th of June at the Saint Petersburg Stadium.
