The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released two prominent supporters of Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi after holding them for approximately 11 hours at its headquarters in Abuja, their lawyer has confirmed.
The two activists, Randy Peter and Precious Oruche, popularly known as Mama Pee, arrived at the EFCC office on Tuesday, 15 July, at approximately 1:00 p.m. following an invitation from the commission.
They were released shortly after midnight and directed to return on Thursday for further engagement.
Their lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, confirmed on Thursday that the duo was invited over an allegation of naira abuse, following two separate invitation letters issued on 24 June and 6 July 2026.
“Our clients are in high spirits and they appreciate the concerns expressed by spirited Nigerians regarding their safety. We will provide more information about this matter in due course,” Effiong said.
Fellow activist Justice Cracks, who accompanied the pair to the EFCC headquarters, announced their release on X.

“My dear brother, Randy Peter, and my sister, Mama Pee, were invited by the EFCC. I personally accompanied them there on the afternoon of 15th July 2026, at about 1:00 p.m. It was a very long day.
They were eventually released at around 12:00 a.m. and were asked to return the following day,” he wrote.
Concerns had earlier mounted on social media after Esther Umoh, Peter Obi’s 2023 campaign photographer, disclosed that the activists had remained inside the commission’s office for several hours without being released.
The prolonged questioning triggered speculation that the pair had been arrested.
The EFCC did not issue a public statement on the matter.
