Enugu Teaching Hospital Suspends Staff Over Abuse Of Patient

The authorities of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) Teaching Hospital, Parklane, Enugu, weekend, suspended a staff member of the institution over an alleged misconduct in the treatment of a patient of the hospital.

The university disclosed this via its Public Relations Office. The management said the punitive measure was taken following reports circulating in the public domain.

The management stated that it had commenced immediate investigations into the matter “with the suspension of the alleged member of staff pending the conclusion of a full investigation”.

The hospital affirmed that it has zero tolerance for any form of unethical behaviour capable of undermining patient care and public trust.

Quoting the management, “Parklane Hospital Management wishes to state unequivocally that any form of extortion, demand for unofficial payments, abuse of authority, or conduct that compromises patient care is unacceptable and contrary to the values and standards of this institution and will be summarily dealt with.”

The management also reaffirmed the commitment of the Enugu State government to transparent and people-focused healthcare delivery.

It noted that the administration of Governor Peter Mbah would not condone practices that erode public confidence in government health institutions.

“The government of Enugu State remains deeply committed to efficient, transparent, and patient-centred healthcare delivery,” the statement said, adding that, “Governor Peter Mbah has consistently emphasized zero tolerance for practices that undermine public confidence in government institutions, and this matter is being handled in that spirit.”

The hospital management commended members of the public for speaking out and holding institutions accountable. It assured residents of Enugu State that patients’ welfare and ethical medical practice remain paramount”.

The statement added, “We sincerely appreciate the public for speaking up and for holding institutions accountable. Parklane Hospital reassures all residents of Enugu State that patient welfare, ethical medical practice, and respect for human life remain our priorities.”

The management said further updates would be provided at the conclusion of the investigation.
