Gun Recovered From Bag Of Fleeing Suspected Criminal In Enugu

A suspected criminal has abandoned a cut-to-size single-barrelled gun to avoid arrest in Enugu.

The incident happened at Ibagwa Aka, Igboeze South Local Government Area on Friday.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the suspect abandoned a bag where he hid the gun on sighting police operatives attached to the Igbo-Eze South Police Division.

“The operatives, while on routine security surveillance around the Jimoh Rauf Badamosi (JRB) Mini Stadium, Ibagwa-Aka, in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area, observed the suspect holding a black polythene bag in a suspicious manner.

“On sighting the operatives, the suspect abandoned the bag and fled the scene before he could be apprehended. The abandoned bag was recovered and searched, leading to the discovery of the firearm concealed inside,” Ndukwe said.

He said efforts were currently being intensified to identify, arrest, and ascertain the criminal intentions of the fleeing suspect.

Meanwhile, the state Police Commissioner, CP Mamman Giwa, has urged members of the public to remain law-abiding, security-conscious, and to promptly report suspicious individuals or criminal activities to the nearest police station.
