Kaduna: 3 Days After Bandits Killed 30, Police Have No Clues About Perpetrators

The Kaduna State Police Command said it is yet to track down bandits responsible for Sunday’s attack on some villages in Igabi and Giwa Local Governments of Kaduna State, where over 30 persons were reported killed.

The Public Relations Officer of the command, Muhammad Jalige, who spoke with THE WHISTLER on Tuesday, said the command was still investigating the incident and was yet to make any arrest.

Jalige said the command was still on the trail of the assailants but did not reveal whether it had any information on the suspects.

Recall that bandits had on Sunday morning attacked Kerawa, Rago, Marina, Zariyawa, Hashimawa, Gidan Musa Saidu and Unguwar Barau villages, killing over 30 persons and injuring several others. Several reports, however placed the number of deaths from the attack at over 50.

Governor Nasir El – Rufai had during a visit to the affected areas admitted that government had not done enough to protect the people and apologised.

While also noting that the command was yet to determine the number of deaths from the attack, Jalige said officers had been deployed to the areas to prevent further occurrence.

“We have not arrested anybody but we are on it. If there is any development, I will communicate with you,” he said.

“Honestly from our side we are still working on that aspect too. We have not gotten the exact number of people that were killed, we are still on it.”

He further said the command was not aware of calls for protection by the residents of the communities.

“I visited the scene yesterday, and I interviewed quite a number of the residents of those villages, am not aware of that, and nobody told me about that.

“We have deployed police officers to fortify the areas, the affected villages, and other villages around to prevent further occurrence.”

The Kaduna attack comes on the heels of a similar attack executed by suspected armed bandits in Tsauwa and Dankar villages of Batsari Local Government Areas of Katsina State in February, where about 30 people were reportedly killed.
