Kano Gov Officially Joins APC Monday

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, is set to rejoin the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, 26 January 2026.

The governor had resigned from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) on Friday, after months of negotiations and dithering.

Governor Yusuf’s spokesman, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa confirmed his decision to officially join the APC in a statement on Sunday.

The statement recalled that Governor Yusuf first joined the APC in 2014 when he won the party’s primary election for the Kano central senatorial seat, a position he later conceded to his mentor, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso.

The governor recalled his years of political engagements across different platforms, including his most recent stint in the NNPP.

He however, stated that prevailing realities of governance, national cohesion, and development necessitated his return to the APC.

Yusuf described the ruling party as a familiar and structured platform for progressive governance.

According to him, rejoining the APC would further strengthen cooperation with the Federal Government, accelerate infrastructural development, enhance security coordination, and improve service delivery across Kano State.

He added that his latest move would also consolidate political stability and unity in the state.

The governor had defected On alongside 22 members of the State House of Assembly, eight members of the House of Representatives, and Kano’s 44 local government chairmen.

Governor Yusuf is expected to officially launch the APC e-registration exercise in the state as part of his defection rites.
