Labour Party Defends Otti Against Alleged Bias, Pushes Re-Election

The Abia State chapter of the Labour Party has dismissed allegations that Governor Alex Otti is favouring Arochukwu local government over Isialangwa South local government, emphasising the governor’s impactful projects across the state, including in his constituency, Isialangwa South.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, the Labour Party secretary in the state, Reverend Andrew Ohiagba, said, “Those people saying the governor isn’t doing enough in Isialangwa South are just trying to blackmail the government. It’s not true.”

He highlighted several developments in Isialangwa South, including the construction of major roads like the Okpualangwa to Umuene and others, the renovation of the local government headquarters, and upgrades of health centres.

“If you go to Isialangwa South now, you won’t recognise it again,” he said.

In the health sector, Ohiagba noted improvements in primary healthcare facilities.

“Come to Isialangwa South and see what our health centres look like now, unlike how they used to be. The way Alex Otti is touching a particular LGA is the same way he is touching Isialangwa South across all sectors,” he said.

He pointed to visible transformations in Umuahia, the state capital, with developments around the Government House, Okara Square, and ongoing projects.

Responding to criticisms about resource allocation, Ohiagba urged Abians to focus on broader progress.

“The governor is performing excellently; we are proud of him, calling the claims of imbalance “discouraging” without basis.

Looking ahead to 2027, Ohiagba rallied support for Governor Otti’s re-election, announcing party structures are in place, including a 7,000-member pro-group.

“There’s no vacancy for the governorship seat come 2027; Abians should grab their PVCs and vote for Otti,” he advised, emphasising the state’s visible change under Otti’s leadership.

When asked about fears of electoral challenges, Ohiagba was firm: “I don’t have any fear. Come 2027, anyone contesting should give their money to the less privileged, or it’ll be a waste.”

The secretary appealed to Abians to sustain the “good thing God has offered” and ensure Otti’s return, pointing to the state’s transformation since he assumed office.
