Lagos School Classroom Collapses, Sanwo-Olu Orders Pupils’ Relocation

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has ordered the immediate relocation of pupils following the partial collapse of a bungalow classroom block at Odokekere High School in Ikorodu area of the state.

The incident occurred on Thursday evening, after school hours, sending residents of the OdoKekere community into panic.

It was gathered that a section of the building gave way with a thunderous crash, drawing neighbours and concerned community members to the scene.

First responders from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), were said to have promptly cordoned off the area to ensure public safety.

The Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools (SCRPS) confirmed the collapse, describing the event as unfortunate but stressing that no casualties were recorded.

SCRPS also revealed that the affected classroom block had already been marked for demolition to make way for a new, modern structure that will accommodate the school’s large student population.

“The state government regrets the unfortunate incident . However, a classified information from the SCRPS office, reveals that the classroom block had already been marked for demolition in order to construct a befitting classroom edifice that will accommodate the huge population of students in the school.

“We also wish to state that no casualty was recorded at the building collapse. All of our students are in perfect condition,” SCRPS said in a statement made available to THE WHISTLER.

Sanwo-Olu’s directive to relocate the pupils to nearby schools is intended to ensure that academic activities continue without disruption while a new classroom block is being prepared.

A team of SCRPS officials is scheduled to visit the site to carry out an on-the-spot assessment, enabling the government to begin immediate construction of an ultra-modern learning facility.
