Messi First Player To Miss Two Penalties At Single W/Cups

Argentina captain Lionel Messi made unwanted FIFA World Cup history on Tuesday after becoming the first player to miss two penalties at a single edition of the tournament.

The Inter Miami forward missed from the spot during Argentina’s Round of 16 clash against Egypt, having also failed to convert a penalty against Austria in the group stage. Argentina, however, won the Austria match 2–0.

With the latest miss, Messi also extended another unwanted record. He has now missed four penalties across different FIFA World Cup tournaments, the most by any player in the competition’s history.
