‘No More Metre Bypass In Rivers’- PHED New Boss Announces New Strategies To End Menace

The Acting MD/CEO of Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution (PHED) Ochuko Amah, in a bold move to combat metre bypass and energy theft has announced a two-pronged approach to tackle the menace. 

The first approach, according to Amah, is that the company will embark on an extensive customer engagement campaign to educate consumers about the illegalities and dangers of metre bypass while the second is that PHED will introduce smart metres to make it difficult for customers to bypass their metres.

Amah emphasized that the second approach requires a lot of engagement with customers to make them understand the implications of metre bypass, which according her is a criminal offence in Nigeria.

She made the disclosure at the 2024 Children’s Variety Day celebration held at the PHED corporate headquarters on Moscow road in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

She noted that as part of ensuring customers satisfaction, the company through its Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) decided to celebrate children, saying that children are future leaders that should not be left in isolation. 

Amah, while speaking about her move to revolutionize the power distribution sector, noted that customer satisfaction is her top priority. 

She emphasized that her focus is not just on collecting payments, but on ensuring that customers receive the best possible services.

According to Amah, “Our customers are very special to me. I want them to feel valued and know that we’re not just here to collect funds, but to provide excellent service.” 

She added that her goal is to make a positive impact on every stakeholder, including customers, staff, and regulators, by doing the right thing and recognizing the importance of each group.

Under her leadership, she noted that she is poised on making the distribution to undergo a significant transformation, with a renewed focus on customer-centricity and stakeholder engagement. 

She said her aim is to improve the overall experience for customers and contribute to the growth and development of the power distribution sector.
