Nursing Mother Weeps After Car Is ‘Stolen’ At Abuja Hospital During Child’s Immunisation

A nursing mother, Mrs Promise C. Orinya, was totally shocked after her car went missing outside the Asokoro General Hospital gate on Wednesday, barely one hour after she entered the hospital to immunise her 6 weeks old baby.

Mrs Orinya who works with Police HMO Jabi, told THE WHISTLER in a phone interview on Thursday, that the car, a Toyota Corolla 2002 model, Silver colour, with Adamawa plate number MCH 02 EA, was recently bought for her as a gift by her husband, but she feels sad that it’s now gone.

“I only managed to eat once yesterday, I feel sad. My husband just bought the car for me, not for two months. He bought it at the end of April,” she said.

Explaining how the car went missing, the nursing mother said: “I arrived at the hospital around 8am because I went for immunisation for my baby girl. I drove through the entrance gate and looked for a place to park my car, but there was no space. So I drove out and found a space close to the gate and parked there.

“So after the immunisation I came out but didn’t see the car. I asked the security men there (at the gate) but they too were surprised, they couldn’t say anything about it.”

Mrs Orinya said the whole discovery came to her as a rude shock because she only managed to stay up to an hour inside the hospital, only for her to come out to find her car gone.

According to her, she’s only lucky that there was no valuable left in the car aside from her food and the drugs of her younger sister who accompanied her to the hospital.

Her husband, Dr Agbaji Orinya, told THE WHISTLER that the matter was reported to the police.

“She reported to Asokoro Police Station and FCT Police Command. The police took some steps. They said they radioed the case and alerted all the other exits to Abuja,” Dr Orinya said.

Meanwhile, efforts by THE WHISTLER to confirm from the FCT police Spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, proved abortive as of press time, as she didn’t respond to calls or a text message sent to her phone.
