Oborevwori Commences Construction Of N39.3bn Otovwodo Flyover

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Monday performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the N39.3bn Otovwodo Flyover in Ughelli, Delta State.

He disclosed on Monday that the flyover, awarded to Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, is expected to be completed within 12 months.

Oborevwori said the project was designed to address persistent traffic congestion at Otovwodo Junction, one of the busiest intersections in the state.

According to the governor, the project will involve the construction of a multi-span reinforced concrete bridge with dual carriageways, roundabouts and associated roadworks linking the East–West Road with other major routes in the area.

He said the flyover would reduce traffic congestion, cut travel time and improve safety.

He explained that the project aligns with his administration’s infrastructure renewal drive and is part of efforts to improve connectivity within major urban centres.

Oborevwori noted that Ughelli has experienced rapid population growth over the years, placing pressure on its road network, particularly at Otovwodo Junction on the East–West Road.

He said his administration had earlier constructed alternative routes, including Uduere Street, Okogbe Street, Oru Street, Edo Street and Royal Avenue, linking Agbarha-Otor Road at a cost of nearly (N)6bn, to ease traffic before the commencement of the flyover project.

The governor urged residents to cooperate with traffic officials during the construction period.

Earlier, the Managing Director of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Peer Lubasch, said the project would be delivered to specification and within the agreed timeline.

He explained that the 15-span flyover would feature a dual carriageway, connecting roads, drainage systems and solar street lighting.
