Oyo Monarch To Confer Yoruba Title On Seyi Tinubu

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, is set to confer the chieftaincy title of Okanlomo of Yorubaland on Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, at a ceremony scheduled for Saturday.

Seyi Tinubu, born on October 13, 1985, is an entrepreneur and philanthropist. Though widely regarded as a product of a politically influential family, he has carved a niche for himself in the private sector.

He is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Loatsad Promomedia, an advertising firm established in 2013. He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Buckingham, United Kingdom, obtained in 2010.

Speculation had trailed Tinubu in late 2024 and early 2025 over a possible interest in the 2027 Lagos State governorship race, although no formal declaration has been made.

On the same occasion, the Alaafin will also install Senator Abdul’Aziz Yari, who represents Zamfara West Senatorial District, as the Obaloyin of Yorubaland.

Details of the chieftaincy installation emerged in a flier that circulated on social media on Wednesday.

The flier, jointly signed by the Alaafin and his wife, Ayaba Abiwumi Owoade, invited members of the public to the event slated for Saturday, December 21, 2025.

The title Okanlomo of Yorubaland is regarded as a prestigious Yoruba honorific, loosely translated as “one who is dear to the hearts of the Yoruba people” or “a beloved child,” symbolising affection and prominence within the race.

The development comes months after the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, conferred the title of Okanlomo of Oodua on Ibadan-born philanthropist and Bada Olubadan-designate, Dotun Sanusi.

That conferment had sparked a brief supremacy controversy between the two foremost Yoruba monarchs before being resolved by stakeholders in the region.

More recently, the Ooni of Ife also bestowed the chieftaincy title of Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua on the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

The title, which carries historical and cultural significance, was previously held by the late Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, wife of the late nationalist and statesman, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
