Ozubulu Massacre: Death Toll Rises To 13 As Church Releases Names Of Victims

The death toll in the attack on St. Philip’s Catholic church, Ozubulu, in Anambra state, has risen to 13, the church has said.

A statement issued by Hilary Odili Okeke, bishop of the diocese, noted that 13 people were killed by the gunman and not 12 as was believed.

Dozens of early morning worshippers at St. Phillip Catholic Church in Ofufe Amakwa Ozubulu in Ekwusigo local government area of Anambra State were killed after a gunman opened fire on them when mass was going on at about 7am last Sunday.

According to the statement 22 people sustained various degree of injuries, and are currently undergoing treatment.

While soliciting for funds for the care of the victims, the diocese said it has opened a bank account in that regards.

“Anybody, parish, institution, company, society, association or group that would like to join the diocese in providing assistance to the victims and their families can send their contributions,” the statement read.

“We shall keep accurate records of contribution and distribution of the funds.”
