The drama rocking the Assemblies of God Church, Nigeria, may have been finally resolved following the takeover of the national secretariat of the church at the Independence Layout, Enugu, by Rev Chidi Okoroafor as the general superintendent.

The takeover of the national secretariat by Rev Okoroafor followed an intervention by heavy security operatives that effected the eviction of erstwhile general superintendent Prof Emeka. The heavy security personnel was led by the Enugu state commissioner of police, Dan Mallam Mohammed.

The Reverend Chidi Okoroafor, on behalf of the leaders of the church, thanked God and the faithful of the church for their steadfastness while the protracted legal tussle lingered. He called on the pastors and members of the church to unite for the growth of the church in the spread of the gospel.

The Supreme Court had in a unanimous judgment on the 24th of February this year upheld the judgment of the appeal court which had earlier upheld the decision of the General Committee of the Church that suspended and dismissed the former leader of the church, Prof Paul Emeka.

It would be recalled that Prof Emeka had argued that the apex court’s ruling did not throw him out as the general superintendent.
