Rivers First Lady Hosts Armed Forces Veterans

The Wife of the Rivers State Governor, Lady Valerie Fubara, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Sir Siminalayi Fubara-led administration to inclusive governance, social responsibility and the welfare of citizens, particularly members of the Armed Forces and their families.

Lady Fubara made this known while hosting a Humanitarian Outreach, Family and Community Day organised as part of activities marking the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day in Rivers State.

She described the outreach as a solemn tribute and compassionate gesture aimed at keeping alive the memory of the nation’s shared history, while strengthening the bond between government and Armed Forces veterans, widows of fallen heroes and their families.

According to her, the programme was designed not only to honour the sacrifices of past and present service members, but also to demonstrate government’s appreciation through tangible acts of care and support.

Lady Fubara commended the courage, patriotism and sacrifices of members of the Armed Forces, noting that their unwavering devotion has played a critical role in preserving the peace, unity and territorial integrity of Nigeria.

She assured that the Rivers State Government would continue to support veterans and their families through policies and programmes that promote dignity, wellbeing and sustainable livelihoods..
“Across the length and breadth of our nation, our Armed Forces continue to demonstrate unwavering commitment in safeguarding lives and property, as well as securing critical national assets,” she said.
“Their noble service has contributed immensely to the peace, economic progress and social cohesion of Nigeria. It is therefore our solemn duty, as a people and as a government, to honour their sacrifices, support their welfare and extend compassion and care to their families as a lasting source of encouragement and strength,” Lady Fubara stressed.

The event attracted several top government functionaries and dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Prof. Ngozi Mma Ordu; the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Benibo Anabraba, and his wife, Mrs Ifeyinwa Anabraba; the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr Roseline Uranta; the Head of the Rivers State Civil Service, Dr (Mrs) Inyingi Brown; and Prof. Roseline Konya, among others.

As part of activities lined up for the day, Lady Fubara led participating women in aerobics sessions aimed at promoting physical fitness and healthy living. The programme also featured medical check-ups, indoor and outdoor games, cultural performances, as well as the presentation of gifts to Armed Forces veterans and widows of fallen heroes.

Participants lauded the initiative, describing it as a thoughtful and humane approach to remembrance that goes beyond ceremonial observances to address the real needs of veterans and their families.

The Humanitarian Outreach formed a key component of the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day activities in Rivers State, underscoring the state government’s resolve to honour service, sacrifice and national duty through meaningful engagement and sustained support.
