The New Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed gratitude over the safe rescue of the schoolchildren who were kidnapped, describing their return as a development worthy of thanksgiving.
Obi, in a statement posted on his official X account on Saturday, thanked security personnel and everyone who worked behind the scenes to secure the children’s freedom, saying their efforts made the successful rescue possible.
“I am greatly relieved and delighted to learn of the safe rescue of the schoolchildren who were kidnapped. I sincerely thank all those whose tireless efforts made their freedom possible, especially the security personnel and everyone who worked behind the scenes,” he said.
While celebrating the children’s return, Obi warned that no child should ever have to endure the trauma of abduction, stressing that the repeated kidnapping of schoolchildren highlights the urgent need to strengthen the country’s security architecture.
He said protecting lives and property must remain the foremost responsibility of government, adding that every Nigerian child deserves to pursue education in an environment free from fear, violence and insecurity.

According to him, Nigeria must continue to work towards becoming a country where children can attend school without the threat of kidnapping or other forms of violence.
Obi also rejoiced with the rescued children, their families, their schools and Nigerians, describing the successful rescue as a heartening development for the nation.
