Seven adult males sustained varying degrees of burn injuries in the fire outbreak that gutted a clothing warehouse at the Great Nigeria Insurance House on Martins Street, Lagos Island, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed.
In an update issued on Thursday, LASEMA said the injured victims were promptly attended to by agency paramedics at the scene and subsequently taken to nearby hospitals for further medical treatment.
The agency also disclosed that three male and two female victims who suffered smoke inhalation were administered first aid and released at the incident scene.
According to the update, the fire, which earlier spread to a nearby mosque and parts of Oluwole Plaza, has now been contained through the combined efforts of emergency responders.
LASEMA said the Oluwole Plaza was largely salvaged, while adjoining buildings in close proximity to the high-rise structure were also saved from extensive damage.

“The inferno that spread to the Mosque has been brought under control,” the agency stated.
“The adjoining buildings in close proximity of the high rise building have all been largely salvaged, and co-ordinated efforts continue towards ensuring the inferno is totally extinguished.”
LASEMA further confirmed that the seven-storey Radio Nigeria building located opposite the 22-storey Great Nigeria Insurance House was safely extinguished by emergency responders, with dampening-down operations currently ongoing. Recovery operations, it added, are still in progress.
The latest development follows an earlier report by THE WHISTLER that a fire outbreak on Wednesday gutted sections of the Great Nigeria Insurance House, a commercial plaza housing several clothing warehouses, offices, and shops.
The fire reportedly started at about 5 p.m., with preliminary findings indicating that it originated from an apartment on the fourth floor before spreading to higher floors.
