Two passengers sustained serious injuries in a road traffic crash involving a commercial bus along the Heritage Garden inward Oshodi–Oke axis of Lagos in the early hours of Sunday.
The spokesperson of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed the incident in a statement, saying the crash involved a long red Tata commercial bus.
Preliminary findings indicated that the accident was caused by excessive speeding after the commercial bus rammed into a moving truck.
The truck reportedly drove away from the scene without sustaining visible damage, making immediate identification and accountability difficult.
LASTMA operatives responded to the distress alert and arrived at the scene to rescue two passengers who were trapped in the mangled vehicle.

“Preliminary findings reveal that a ‘Tata’ long red commercial bus, MUS 507 XX, was involved in the crash, which was reportedly triggered by excessive speed.
“The collision ensued when the bus rammed into another moving truck, which subsequently fled the scene without sustaining visible damage, thereby hindering immediate identification and accountability,”: Adebayo said.
Emergency response protocols were immediately activated, with the Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS) contacted for medical intervention.
Adebayo said LASAMBUS responded swiftly, administered first aid at the scene and transported the injured passengers to a medical facility for further treatment.
To prevent secondary accidents and restore free flow of traffic, he said LASTMA officers apprehended the driver of the commercial bus for investigation, while the damaged vehicle was evacuated from the road.

Reacting to the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed sympathy with the injured passengers and wished them a speedy recovery.
He described the crash as avoidable and warned motorists against reckless speeding.
Bakare-Oki stressed that speeding remains one of the major causes of road traffic crashes, urging both commercial and private drivers to observe speed limits, drive responsibly and comply with traffic regulations to ensure road safety in Lagos State.
“Speeding remains one of the most prevalent causes of road traffic crashes and needless loss of lives. Adherence to speed regulations is not optional; it is a civic and moral obligation essential to safeguarding all road users,” he stated.
