The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on Thursday confirmed Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Benjamin Hundeyin as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO).
His appointment comes barely 24 hours after his predecessor, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, was promoted to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and redeployed as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Delta State Command.
The Police Service Commission (PSC) had earlier approved Adejobi’s elevation, with the Force Headquarters describing the redeployment as part of routine administrative procedures to strengthen operational leadership across the country.
Adejobi’s tenure as Force PRO was marked by consistent efforts to professionalise police communication, build trust with civil society, and enhance transparency in public engagement.
In his new role in Delta State, Adejobi is expected to coordinate tactical deployments, supervise field operations, and strengthen police-community relations. The police hierarchy expressed confidence that his experience in communication and policing reforms would serve him well in addressing Delta’s complex security landscape.
Adejobi was credited for improving the Force’s visibility on social media and strengthening relationships with citizens through proactive crisis communication.

In a post on X on Wednesday, Adejobi noted that his redeployment reflected the confidence of the Force leadership in his professionalism and ability to enhance operational strategies within the Command.
Announcing the new appointment in a statement, Adejobi described Hundeyin as a well-qualified officer with solid academic and professional credentials.
“The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, NPM, Ph.D., has approved the appointment of CSP Benjamin Hundeyin as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO),” the statement read.
CSP Hundeyin holds a BA (Hons) in English Language from Lagos State University and an MSc in Legal Criminology & Security Psychology from the University of Ibadan.
He also obtained a Certificate in Civil-Military Coordination from the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Training Centre, Jaji, Kaduna State.

He is an Associate of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), a Member of the International Public Relations Association (IPRA), and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM).
While highlighting his professional experience, Adejobi added that Hundeyin is a seasoned communicator who previously served as the Police Public Relations Officer at Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos.
He was also part of the Nigerian contingent to the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur, Sudan (UNAMID) in 2020, and served as Administration Officer at the Force Public Relations Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Until his latest appointment, Hundeyin was the Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Police Command.
The Inspector-General of Police tasked Hundeyin with sustaining and strengthening public confidence in the police.
“The Inspector-General of Police has charged him to leverage on his communications and security experience to bolster the Force’s Public Relations activities and ensure continuous positive relations with the public,” Adejobi said.

THE WHISTLER reports that Adejobi’s redeployment to Delta State will see his involvement in efforts to tackle violent crimes, oil theft, communal clashes, and other security challenges.
A senior police source who spoke with THE WHISTLER had dismissed reports that Adejobi was “controversially removed” from his spokesperson role, stressing that his elevation was neither punitive nor political.
“The deployment of officers is a normal administrative procedure in the Nigeria Police Force. DCP Adejobi’s record of professionalism, commitment, and service excellence made him a natural fit for this crucial operational responsibility,” the officer at the force headquarters told THE WHISTLER.
