About 100 pupils kidnapped from St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary School, Papiri, in Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State, have regained their freedom.
The development was reported on Sunday by TVC News and Channels Television, although the Federal Government had yet to release an official statement at the time of filing this report.
The victims were part of the 315 people seized when gunmen invaded the remote community on November 21. The attackers, who arrived on motorbikes around 2 a.m., reportedly operated for nearly three hours before leaving with 303 students and 12 teachers.
Within the first 24 hours of the incident, about 50 pupils escaped and were reunited with their families, reducing those held captive to 265.
The latest release of 100 pupils marks a significant step toward securing the freedom of the remaining victims.
