Armed Thugs Injure Four Lagos Govt Officials

Four officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), also known as KAI, were injured on Wednesday after being attacked by armed thugs during a joint enforcement operation at Yakoyo Abula Restaurants, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The operation, carried out in collaboration with the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO), was aimed at curbing the illegal discharge of untreated wastewater, fats, and oils into the environment.

During the enforcement, the restaurant allegedly broke a government seal and unleashed hoodlums on the officers.

In a statement shared on social media, Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, condemned the attack, describing it as a blatant violation of the law.

“The Yakoyo restaurant not only broke the government’s seal, they went further to unleash armed thugs on officials who were lawfully carrying out their duties. This crosses every line,” Wahab said.

He warned that any individual or business that assaults, obstructs, or threatens government officials on duty would face strict action.

The restaurant’s supervisor has been arrested, and the facility has been sealed until further notice

Wahab confirmed that additional arrests will be made to bring all those responsible to justice.

He reiterated Lagos State’s commitment to enforcing environmental laws, stating, the state will not allow lawlessness to take root in Lagos.

“Any individual or business that assaults, obstructs, or threatens government officers on duty will face decisive action. Such premises will be sealed without hesitation, and those responsible will be prosecuted.

“We will not allow lawlessness to take root in Lagos. No one is above the law, and any attempt to intimidate government officials will be met with firm and immediate consequences,” Wahab added.
