Barcelona Defeat Girona, Maintain Perfect Start

Barcelona recorded a dominant 4-1 victory over Girona in a 2024-25 La Liga encounter to maintain their perfect start to the season.

The Blaugrana have won their first five matches of the season, scoring 17 goals and conceding four under their new coach, Hansi Flick.

Young star, Lamine Yamal scored a brace, while Dani Olmo and Pedri added the other goals to hand the visitors the maximum points.

Olmo became the first player to score in his first three Barcelona league matches since Cesc Fabregas in 2011 with a fine finish from a tight angle in the 47th minute to make it 3-0

Pedri scored the fourth with a tap-in in the 64th minute while Girona substitute Cristhian Stuani netted a consolation goal in the 80th, six minutes before Barca were reduced to 10 men when forward Ferran Torres was given a straight red card for a nasty studs-up challenge on Yaser Asprilla.

It was another dominant performance by Flick’s impressive Barcelona who outplayed Girona throughout the match and could have won by a wider margin.

Barcelona coach, Hansi Flick was delighted with the team’s performance to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

He said, “I like our pressing. It has been very intense from the first minute. We deserved the win and the result. It’s great to see how the team performs. But as you know, I work with them everyday and I can see the quality.”

“I told the team how important it was for them to continue in the same way as before the international break, and they responded brilliantly.”

Player of the match, Lamine Yamal said the team has shifted focus to the next match after the impressive win.

He said, “Coming back from the national team is always difficult, but today we were very good. We’re already thinking about the next match. The key has been to be direct. When we recover we only think about scoring.”

The last time Barcelona enjoyed this type of run was in the 2018-19 season when Lionel Messi and co scored 17 goals in five matches with a maximum record.
