Bird Flu Resurfaces In Kano

A fresh outbreak of avian influenza, popularly known as bird flu, has reportedly hit a town in Kano State, causing palpable panic amongst residents and poultry farmers as Christmas celebration draws closer.

The announcement was made by the director of Veterinary Services, Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, in the state, Dr Shehu Bawa, who stated that the outbreak was recorded in one of the poultry farms in the state.

He noted that the state government has taken “proactive measures” to prevent further spread of the disease.

He said: “The state government has taken proactive measures to contain the spread of the disease to other farms within the state.

“I am using this opportunity to advise farmers to immediately report any outbreak of the disease to enable government take prompt response.”
