President Muhamadu Buhari has promised that his Administration will continue to show support for locally made goods.

The president disclosed this on Wednesday during the presentation of the 2017 budget proposal, tagged “Budget of recovery and Growth”, before a joint session of the National Assembly.

As part of his remarks, Buhari encouraged every Nigerian to show support for the domestic industries in the country, by buying and using locally made products, which he believes will be a major step forward towards economic recovery.

He said: “By this simple principle, we will increasingly grow and process our own food, we will manufacture what we can and refine our own petroleum products. We will buy ‘Made in Nigeria’ goods.

“We will encourage garment manufacturing and Nigerian designers, tailors and fashion retailers.

“We will patronize local entrepreneurs. We will promote the manufacturing powerhouses in Aba, Calabar, Kaduna, Kano, Lagos, Nnewi, Onitsha, and Ota. From light manufacturing to cement production and petrochemicals, our objective is to make Nigeria a new manufacturing hub.

Recall that Okezie Ikpeazu, the Executive Governor of Abia State, upon resumption of office on May 29, 2015 assured that ‘Made- in- Aba’ products will become something of high quality and in high demand.

“I am proud to stand in front of this crowd today clad in all made- in-Aba attire. I pledge to wear made-in-Aba all through my service as Governor and beyond, not because of lack of options but because it is good to be proud of what we have, especially if it’s the best.”

Recently, The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, hinted on the desire of the Nigeria Army to partner Abia State in patronizing made in Aba products in providing the soldiers with their kits.
