Buhari Reacts To ‘Bestial Killing’ Of Policemen In Anambra

President Muhammadu Buhari has assured Nigerians that there shall be no more sorrow and mourning as he is determined to replicate peace being enjoyed in the North East all over the country.

The president’s assurance was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, over the killing of policemen in some part of South East.

The President, who condoled the families of the slained policemen, condemned the manner of the killing of policemen, describing it as bestial.

Recall that three policemen were ambushed few days ago in Anambra, with two killed and the video of their killing shared to the consternation of all.

The video footage that was released showed some vehicle tyres on the road while the bodies of the killed policemen laid on the tarred road while some heavily armed persons announcing that they were Eastern Security Network, ESN, stood close by with guns.

The president condemned such “misguided” and “bestial killings,” and lamented “the horrific nature of the bloodletting, which indicates that some minds are completely overtaken by hatred, and reduced to the basest level imaginable.”

The president reminded that the three abducted policemen were serving the country, and providing security to those who ironically turned against them.

Buhari equally sympathised with “all those who have lost loved ones in the different theatres of insecurity that had rocked the country, charging them to take solace in the inevitable victory of good over evil.

“As the areas,” especially the North East, “where insecurity was once fiercest in the country experience some measures of calm now, he assured that the same would be replicated round the country”, and the people would no longer mourn and sorrow from wanton loss of lives.

The President’s assurance follows four consecutive days of abduction of dozens of travellers on Abuja-Kaduna road while many more were killed.

At the last meeting with the service chiefs, the president congratulated the security chiefs for doing a good job while further charging them to go after the terrorists who were making life difficult for travellers on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway and other parts of the country.
