COVID-19: EU Pledges €1Billion To WHO For Global Distribution of Vaccine
The European Union President, Ursula Von Der Leyen, has pledged one billion Euros to the World Health Organization(WHO), as part of contributions towards global response in research and distribution of the right Coronavirus vaccine.
She disclosed this at a virtual Covid-19 Global Response Conference on Monday.
The conference was an initiative to raise 7.5 billion Euros for the speedy creation and circulation of the Coronavirus vaccine across the world.
She said covid-19 would keep causing havoc until the right vaccine was produced and disbursed throughout the world.
“The reality is we will have to live with the virus until and unless we develop a vaccine and this is why we have to join forces and pool our money and our minds to kick-start work on vaccines, diagnostics and treatments against coronavirus,” the EU Commission President said.
EU, according to its report, was joining forces with France, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Norway, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, Saudi Arabia and Italy in pledging to attain the budgeted funding by WHO.

On his part, WHO’s Director General, Dr. Tedros, lauded EU and Melinda Gates, for their support , adding that the funds would help in the fast delivery of the vaccines.
