Senator Ikeje Asogwa, representing Enugu North Senatorial District of Enugu State, has been charged to sustain the struggles towards the creation of Adada State at the National Assembly.
Some resource persons that spoke with THE WHISTLER on Wednesday said Adada State creation is long overdue, adding that the late Senator Okey Ezea would always be remembered for championing its creation until his death last year.
The Chairman, Adada State Creation Movement, Chief James Ugwu, while congratulating Asogwa on his inauguration on Wednesday, charged him to continue to champion the struggle until its actualisation.
He said, “I congratulate Senator Ikeje Asogwa on his inauguration today. He has been among the champions of the creation of Adada State. Now, as our senator, he has to shoulder the responsibility at the National Assembly. He has to lead other National Assembly lawmakers from the Adada territories in championing the struggle. Frankly speaking, the only thing that runs in the vein of any Nsukka person is the creation of Adada State. I urge him to find out the stage the actualisation process of Adada State is in the National Assembly, and pick it up from there. We have actually gone far, and what is remaining is to go for a referendum if it comes out of the Senate. I wish him well, and I know that he knows that the only thing we need, apart from our lives, is Adada State.”
He called on other lawmakers from the district to join hands with the new senator towards that actualisation of the state.
Also speaking, Chief Emmanuel Attah, leader of a support group for Adada State creation, urged Senator Asogwa to take the struggle from where the late Senator Okey Ezea stopped before his death.

“While we wish Senator Ikeje Asogwa well in the Senate,” Attah said, “he should toe the line of the late Okey Ezea who sponsored a bill for the creation of the state. The late Ezea’s efforts towards the creation of Adada State endeared him to the people of the district. We expect that Mr Asogwa, who is serving out Ezea’s remaining term, dust the files on Adada and sustain the pressure without any delay. We don’t expect him to be a learner, rather he should be an old horse despite being a first-timer.”
Our correspondent reports that Senator Asogwa was inaugurated today at the Senate by the Clerk of the Senate. He was declared winner of the June 20, 2026 bye-election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, with over 162, 000 votes. The election followed the death of erstwhile Senator Okey Ezea last year.
