FCTA Begins Promotion Test For 13,000 Workers

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has commenced the promotion exercise for more than 13,000 civil servants across the Federal Capital Territory Administration and the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA).

The Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Engr. Emeka Ezeh, disclosed this on Wednesday, saying the exercise was approved by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, as part of efforts to strengthen the civil service and improve career progression for eligible officers.

According to Ezeh, the Computer-Based Test (CBT) promotion exercise, which began on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, will run for ten days and involve over 13,000 officers across 150 cadres and grade levels.

He said the exercise aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, adding that the minister had also directed the commission to conclude the 2026 promotion exercise before the end of the year to ensure no eligible officer is denied the opportunity for career advancement.

“As part of the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr President, the Honourable Minister of FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike, has approved the promotion exercise for over 13,000 FCT Civil Servants for the year 2025.

“The exercise is expected to commence on July 1, 2026, for a period of ten days.

“The Minister further directed the Commission to ensure that the 2026 promotion is also conducted before the end of the year to ensure all eligible officers are given the opportunity to grow in the service.

“He directed the Commission to work with all relevant agencies of the FCTA to ensure a hitch-free exercise such that all issues which arose from the previous exercise do not repeat themselves,” the Ezeh stated.

He assured participants that all necessary arrangements had been put in place to guarantee a seamless and transparent exercise.

Eze appealed to candidates to remain patient throughout the process and wished them success in the CBT promotion examination.

The commission also noted that it had taken lessons from previous exercises and had worked with relevant FCTA agencies to address challenges encountered in the past.

The FCT Civil Service Commission recalled that it became the first civil service commission in the country to conduct promotion examinations through the Computer-Based Test system in 2024, barely six months after its inauguration in March of the same year.

The commission said the adoption of the CBT format was aimed at promoting transparency, efficiency and credibility in the promotion process while ensuring that eligible officers are assessed in a fair and merit-based manner.
