Kano Delegation Urges SGF To Release ₦5bn Singer Market Relief Fund

A delegation of Kano business leaders and senior government officials has met with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, to seek the immediate release of the ₦5 billion relief fund approved by the Federal Government for victims of the Singer Market fire.

The meeting was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the spokesperson to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Sunusi Dawakin Tofa.

According to the statement, the delegation reminded the Federal Government of its commitment to support traders who lost their businesses and means of livelihood in the market inferno.

The delegation said the prompt release of the intervention fund would provide much-needed relief to affected traders and help restore commercial activities at the market.

Members also expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for approving the intervention and appealed for the speedy completion of the disbursement process to enable beneficiaries to access the funds.

Those at the meeting included the President of the Association of Kano Business Community, Sabiu Bako; Commissioner for Finance, Ismail Aliyu Danmaraya; APC National Ex-Officio, Muhammad Jamu Yusuf; Chairman of Singer Market, Junaidu Muhammad Zakari; and businessman, Kabiru Adamu Gano.

Responding, Akume assured the delegation that their request had been noted and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting victims of the market fire.

The ₦5 billion intervention was announced earlier by Vice President Kashim Shettima during the reception held to welcome Governor Yusuf into the All Progressives Congress.

At the event, Shettima also disclosed that the Progressive Governors’ Forum had pledged an additional ₦3 billion to assist victims of the disaster.
