The Kano State Fire Service recorded 58 fire incidents and 13 fatalities across the state in May 2026, according to its monthly operational report.
The figures were disclosed by the Director of the Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, and made available in a statement issued on Monday by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.
According to the report, the Fire Service responded to 80 emergency calls between May 1 and May 31, covering fire outbreaks, rescue operations and false alarms.
Of the total number of calls received, 58 were related to fire incidents, 15 involved rescue operations, while seven turned out to be false alarms.
Anas said the 13 deaths recorded during the period resulted from various incidents, including fire outbreaks, road traffic accidents, and cases involving ponds and wells.

Despite the fatalities, the Service successfully rescued 34 people during emergency operations carried out across the state.
“We successfully saved 34 lives during our rescue operations across the state,” he said.
The agency also reported significant property losses caused by fire outbreaks during the month. According to the Director, properties valued at more than ₦144 million were destroyed, while prompt intervention by firefighters helped save assets worth about ₦437 million.
Anas urged residents to observe fire safety precautions and exercise caution in handling fire-related activities to reduce the occurrence of preventable disasters.
“We are calling on members of the public to adopt proper fire safety measures to prevent avoidable disasters,” he said.
