Low System Frequency Behind Poor Electricity Supply In S’East – EEDC

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC(EEDC) has informed the electricity customers across the South-East region that the recent drop in power supply to electricity consumers across South-East region of Nigeria “is due to low system frequency, occasioned by gas constraints affecting the generation companies”.

The EEDC, in charge of power distribution in the region, stated this following the dwindling power supply across the region.

Mr Emeka Eze, Group Head, Corporate Communications, EEDC, gave the explanation on Tuesday in a press release made available to THE WHISTLER in Enugu.

According to him, the development necessitated the load shedding of available energy by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

Quoting him, “As a result, this development has impacted energy allocation to EEDC and the daily service level to customers served by its subsidiary companies, namely: MainPower, TransPower, FirstPower, NewEra, and EastLand.”

He said efforts were being made by critical stakeholders in the electricity supply industry to address the challenge and restore normal power distribution.

The statement added, “EEDC sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience this situation has caused its esteemed customers and appreciates their patience and understanding.”

Meanwhile, some electricity consumers have called on EEDC to expedite action towards the restoration of electricity supply in the affected areas.

“We don’t have regular power supply, yet the bills keep coming. Since EEDC has admitted its errors, the management should as well reduce their billings in the affected months,” said Frank Omaha, a pub operator in Enugu.

Simon Itodo, a trader, said the irregular power supply had adversely affected his business.

He said, “I sell frozen meat. It requires constant power supply. Because of poor power supply, I always have my generator on. It increases the cost of production. Let them find a lasting solution to this problem once.”
