NDC Demands Lagos CP’s Resignation For Attending City Boy Movement Event

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has demanded the resignation of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, over his alleged attendance at the inauguration of the Lagos State chapter executive committee of the City Boy Movement.

The opposition party said the commissioner’s presence at the event breached the neutrality expected of the police ahead of the forthcoming general election. It also called on the Nigeria Police Force to suspend and sanction him, warning that the development could undermine public confidence in the conduct of security personnel during the polls.

The demand followed a post on X by user Oyindamola (@dammiedammie35), who shared a video captioned: “Arrival of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani at the City Boy Movement. Lagos State Chapter EXCO Inauguration.”

Reacting to the post, the NDC condemned what it described as the commissioner’s appearance at a partisan political event.

“We condemn in the strongest terms the appearance of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani, at a partisan event promoting a particular candidate in the upcoming general election.

“We understand that the rudderless APC-led administrations have no iota of respect for our institutions, but seeing a Commissioner of Police at a partisan event can only point to one thing: HE WILL BE BIASED in the discharge of his duties during the elections. We therefore demand that the Nigeria Police authorities immediately suspend and sanction the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani,” the statement read.

The party also called on the police authorities to publicly commit to remaining neutral during the elections, protect voters and supporters of all political parties, and ensure the safety of lives and property regardless of religion, ethnicity or political affiliation.

It further insisted that Fatai should resign immediately, arguing that his attendance at the event had diminished the image and integrity of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Lagos State Police Command had not responded to the allegations as of the time of filing this report.
