Nigerians To Provide BVN, NIN, Tax Numbers For Tinted Glass Permit

Following the recent directive to resume the issuance of tinted glass permits, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has restricted applications to Nigerians with Bank Verification Number (BVN), National Identification Number (NIN), and Tax Identification Number (TIN).

According to a new guideline, applicants must provide the means of identification before receiving a tinted permit.

A TIN is a unique identifier issued by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to individuals and businesses for tax purposes.

It is crucial for filing taxes, opening corporate accounts, and ensuring compliance with Nigeria’s tax regulations.

The police have outlined a nine-step application process, which begins with verifying the applicant’s BVN, NIN, and TIN.

This indicates that only Nigerians who are registered taxpayers can successfully apply for a tinted glass permit.

Below are the requirements and process for obtaining a tinted glass permit.

1. Visit https://possap.gov.ng and sign up using your BVN, NIN, and TIN.
2. Create an account by filling out the required forms with accurate and verifiable information.
3. Check your email for a verification code and use it to activate your account.
4. Log in using your email address and the password created during sign-up.
5. Navigate to “Selected Services” and choose “Tinted Glass Permit.”
6. Enter your vehicle details and upload all required supporting documents.
7. Review and confirm the information, then click “Submit.
8. Proceed to make the necessary payment.
9. Schedule an appointment for vehicle inspection and biometric capture at your selected NPF Intelligence Department office to complete the application.

To ease the transition to the new platform, the NPF has approved a 30-day grace period starting from May 1, 2025. During this time, motorists are expected to comply with the new requirements.

The police also warned that they will begin active enforcement after the grace period. They emphasised that officers found extorting or harassing applicants during the process will face disciplinary action.
