Osun Poll: Adeleke Camp Demands Probe Of APC Senator’s Call To Violence

The camp of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has called on the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to investigate a viral video showing Senator Francis Fadahunsi calling on a group of supporters to kill Accord Party members wherever they are found in Ilesa part of Osun State.

Fadahunsi, who represents the Osun East senatorial district, and a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), spoke ahead of Saturday’s Osun governorship election in which the APC is one of the contending parties.

In the video circulating on social media, the senator, speaking in Yoruba, accused Accord Party supporters of attacking APC members and allegedly called on his audience to retaliate.

Senator Fadahunsi said, “From now on, whenever you see Accord members, kill them. I authorise you to kill them. They have wives and children too.”

“This is a Federal Government election. On election day, even if they come with voter cards, we won’t allow them to vote.”

He was also heard challenging those present at the rally to record his remarks and circulate them on social media.

Reacting to the video, the spokesperson for the Adeleke campaign council, Pelumi Olajengbesi, urged the police authorities to intervene immediately, warning that the alleged remarks could threaten the peaceful conduct of the August 15 election.

“This is a serious threat to lives and the peaceful conduct of the August 15 election.
“Mr Inspector-General of Police, this must be addressed immediately. Nobody has the right to kill an Accord member or any citizen. Nobody has the right to stop Osun people from voting. Enough is enough!” Olajengbesi said.

The campaign council’s call came amid growing concerns over the conduct of the election and the threat of violence among rival political camps.

Not a few Nigerians who reacted to the video online also called for police action against the senator, saying that the lawmaker’s statements constitute an incitement and a threat to lives.
