Police Arrest 56-Year-Old Man, Recover 21 Bags Of Indian Hemp

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 56-year-old man, Lucky Oyiboka, during a raid on a suspected criminal hideout in Owa-Abbi, Ukwani Local Government Area of the state.

Oyiboka was arrested on Saturday, August 8, 2026, by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), following intelligence on alleged criminal activities at the location.

The police said 21 bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered during a search of the premises.

The Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday by its Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.
According to the police, preliminary investigations indicated that Oyiboka was allegedly involved in the distribution of illicit drugs.

“Investigation has been intensified to determine the extent of the illicit drug network and identify other persons connected to the operation,” the statement said.

The suspect remains in police custody and will be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations, the Command said.

The operation is part of the state police command’s intensified efforts to tackle violent crimes, drug trafficking and other criminal activities across Delta State.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, said the Command remained committed to intelligence-led policing and sustained operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and curbing the proliferation of illicit drugs.

The police urged residents to provide credible and timely information about criminal activities, assuring that the identities of informants would be kept confidential.
