Marmoush Scores Brace As Manchester City Beat Atletico Madrid 3-1

Omar Marmoush struck twice in a lightning three-minute spell to inspire a Manchester City comeback win over Atletico Madrid in a pre-season friendly in Seoul, South Korea.

Atletico had taken the lead just before the break after City failed to fully clear a corner from Koke, allowing Morten Hjulmand to set up 16-year-old Jorge Dominguez, who slotted past goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

City hit back in the 57th minute when Antoine Semenyo showed sharp instincts to keep a loose ball in play before surging into the box down the left flank, cutting the ball back for Marmoush to finish.

The pair combined again just two minutes later for an almost identical goal, with Marmoush tapping home comfortably after another low delivery from Semenyo.

More than 50,000 fans packed the Seoul World Cup Stadium for the encounter, with the biggest roar of the night reserved for the second-half introduction of South Korea international Lee Kang-in.

The Atletico man came close to levelling matters when he found space near the penalty spot, but his first-time effort drifted just wide of the post.

Rayan Ait-Nouri put the result beyond doubt deep into injury time, latching onto a Divin Mubama through ball before firing low into the bottom corner to complete the 3-1 win.

The victory rounded off City’s pre-season tour of Asia, following a 3-1 penalty shootout defeat to Inter Milan after a 1-1 draw in Hong Kong on 1 August, and a 3-1 win over a K League All-Stars side in Seoul earlier in the week.

Enzo Maresca’s side, who beat Chelsea 1-0 to lift the FA Cup in May, will now turn their attention to the Community Shield, where they face reigning Premier League champions Arsenal at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Sunday, 16 August.

That fixture is expected to offer game time to several players who missed the Asia tour after extended involvement at the World Cup, including Erling Haaland, Rodri, Rayan Cherki, Jeremy Doku, Marc Guehi and Elliot Anderson.
