The Delta State Police Command has foiled a planned kidnap operation in the Upper Agbarho area of the state, recovering an FNC rifle, a pump-action gun and ammunition.
The command said its operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), executed the operation.
Acting on intelligence, the operatives received information that about six suspected kidnappers were moving through a bush path in Upper Agbarho.
According to the command, officers on January 11, cordoned off an uncompleted building believed to be the suspects’ hideout.
The command noted that on sighting the police team, the suspects reportedly opened fire, leading to a shootout.
The police said the suspects were overpowered and fled the scene with injuries, abandoning their weapons.

Items recovered include one FNC rifle loaded with a round of live ammunition and one pump-action gun with 32 rounds of live cartridges.
The police said all the exhibits have been taken into custody, while a manhunt has been launched to arrest the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Aina Adesola, commended the operatives and stressed that the command would continue to clamp down on kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.
