Police Suspend Tinted Glass Policy For Fourth Time
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has suspended the nationwide enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy, originally scheduled to take effect on Friday, January 2, 2026.
This marks the fourth suspension of the policy since its initial introduction in 2025.
The suspension follows an interim court order in Suit No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025, issued on December 17, 2025, which restrained the Force from implementing the policy pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit or the vacation of the order.
The directive, announced on the microblogging platform X by Force spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, emphasises strict compliance with judicial authority.
Hundeyin confirmed that the NPF has entered an appearance in the case, raised preliminary objections, and formally applied for the vacation of the interim order.
He added that the court has adjourned proceedings to January 20, 2026, for further consideration.

“Accordingly, and strictly in compliance with the subsisting court order, the Nigeria Police Force has placed the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy on hold nationwide, pending the decision of the court,” he stated.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to the rule of law while executing its mandate to protect lives and property.
“The Force will continue to deploy lawful, intelligence-driven strategies to address security challenges and safeguard public safety across the country,” he said.
Egbetokun assured the public that the NPF would provide further updates and issue clear guidance following the court’s determination, emphasising that all actions aim to uphold public order and national security.
