The Supreme Court on Wednesday affirmed the elections of Babajide Sanwo Olu as Governor of Lagos, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom and Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State.

The judges of the apex court in a unanimous judgement affirmed their victories and declared them duly elected.

For Lagos, the judgment was delivered by Justice Paul Galinje. He held that the reliefs sought by the appellant do not fall within the ambit of the schedule of the electoral act and that prayers sort before the court in an election matter are jurisdictional and must fall within the reliefs allowed by the law in section 138 of the electoral act.

The court in that of Ogun, said the appellant, Adekunle Akinlade, did not prove beyond reasonable doubts his allegations of substantial non-compliance and irregularities in the election.

In the case of Katsina, Justice Iyang Okoro held that the appellant, Senator Garba Lado of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) did not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Masari did not qualify to participate in the election.

Udom contested the election under the platform of the PDP.
