Trump Says U.S. Iran Operations May Conclude in 2–3 Weeks

President Donald Trump, speaking from the White House, announced that U.S. military operations in Iran could conclude within two to three weeks and that the United States would no longer be responsible for securing the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump, who is scheduled to address the nation later in the day, said he could walk away from the conflict once he felt confident that Iran would not be able to develop a nuclear weapon, even if Tehran does not agree to a ceasefire.

Trump’s comments coincide with increased U.S. military deployment to the region. The aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush, accompanied by three destroyers and carrying more than 6,000 sailors, is heading to the Middle East, according to U.S. officials.

In addition, thousands of troops from the 82nd Airborne Division have already arrived, highlighting the scale of the U.S. presence.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical maritime route through which a significant portion of the world’s oil is transported.

The U.K. plans to host an international diplomatic conference this week to discuss reopening the strait, with Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirming that 35 countries have signed a statement committing to restore maritime security.

The conflict has already affected global markets. U.S. gas prices on Tuesday rose above $4 per gallon, the highest since 2022, while analysts warn that rising fuel costs could impact groceries and transportation worldwide.

Officials and experts note that the pace of the U.S. operations will depend on both military logistics and the readiness of regional partners to manage security in the strait.

Trump’s projection of a two- to three-week timeline reflects an expectation that U.S. forces will withdraw soon, leaving allied nations to handle ongoing maritime security.

As tensions continue, international observers are closely monitoring both military movements and diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing the risk of a wider conflict while keeping global trade routes open.
