UNIZIK Secures €400,000 EU Grant For Accounting Graduates

Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has been selected as the only federal university in Nigeria to receive a €400,000 European Union (EU) grant.

The institution announced this on Friday in a statement shared via its Facebook page.

The grant is aimed at enhancing the employability of young accounting graduates through a transformative international partnership.

“This initiative aims to empower young accounting graduates in Nigeria and Uganda by equipping them with practical and in-demand employability skills through a structured Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) model,” UNIZIK said.

The UNIZIK Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Carol Arinze-Umobi, described the project as a major milestone for the university’s global academic standing.

According to the release, the two-year initiative would be implemented in collaboration with eight partner institutions in four countries: Nigeria, Uganda, Portugal, and the Netherlands.

“The project is expected to benefit more than 3,000 students and staff in Nigeria and Uganda, focusing on critical activities such as curriculum redesign;

“The development of a WIL quality control framework, industry-academia engagement strategies, and capacity building through student and staff mobility programs,” said UNIZIK.

African partners include Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Anambra State; MAT ABACUS Business School, Uganda and Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Uganda.

The European institutions involved are Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal; Stichting VU, Netherlands; Uganda Chapter for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sejjaaka Kaawaase & Co, a consultancy firm.
