Nigerian media personality and actor Denrele Edun has explained the reason behind his symbolic decision to “marry” himself as part of celebrations marking his 45th birthday.
The entertainer, whose full name is Adenrele Oluwafemi Edun, sparked widespread reactions on social media after sharing a video announcing the unconventional self-marriage.
Addressing the reactions in an Instagram Story on Tuesday, Denrele said the symbolic union was a reflection of his life journey and a celebration of self-love, resilience, and personal growth.
According to him, the gesture was meant to honour the one person who had remained by his side through every challenge and triumph over the years.
“Till death didn’t do us part. So I married myself. After 45 years of chaos, glitter, survival, reinvention, controversy, resilience, heartbreak, and triumph, I remain the greatest love story I’ve ever known,” he wrote.

The actor further explained that the ceremony represented an embrace of every version of himself that had contributed to his growth and success.
“I am the bride and the groom. And I am marrying every version of myself that fought to get here. Today, I marry the only person who never left my side: ME!” he added.
Known for his flamboyant fashion sense and unconventional personality, Denrele described himself as “The Bride. The Groom. The Happily Ever After.”
