You Have Elevated Nigeria’s Profile At World Customs Organization, Tinubu Tells Adeniyi
President Bola Tinubu on Monday congratulated the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, on his 60th birthday, commending his visionary leadership and far-reaching reforms within the Service.
In a statement to mark the milestone, the President described Adeniyi’s 60th birthday as a celebration of decades of dedicated service to the nation, noting that his tenure as Comptroller-General has been defined by landmark reforms that have repositioned the NCS as a more efficient and globally relevant institution.
President Tinubu noted Adeniyi’s efforts to transform the NCS into a competitive customs administration aligned with international best practices, a feat he said culminated in Adeniyi’s recognition and election as Chairman of the World Customs Organization (WCO) in June 2025.
The President further praised the Customs boss for projecting Nigeria and Africa on the global stage through inclusive, practical and charismatic leadership at the WCO.
He noted Adeniyi’s role in mobilising customs administrations and key stakeholders to support the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) through the Customs Programme for AfCFTA (C-PACT) platform.

Tinubu also acknowledged the integration of the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Programme in Nigeria, supported by the WCO, which he said has helped to improve cargo clearance times at ports, boost revenue performance and strengthen partnerships with traders.
He added that the adoption of the WCO SAFE Framework of Standards has further enhanced the security and facilitation of global trade.
According to the President, “Internal reforms within the NCS particularly the streamlining of operations through automation and digitisation, improved training and upskilling of officers, high-level diplomacy and the adoption of global best practices have yielded commendable results in trade facilitation and revenue collection.”
President Tinubu noted that Adeniyi’s leadership has also translated into improved community relations, consistent surpassing of revenue targets, stronger trade partnerships with other countries and multilateral institutions, and enhanced security around Nigeria’s borders.
As Adewale Adeniyi marks his 60th birthday, the President prayed that “Almighty God would grant him continued strength, good health and wisdom to sustain his service to the nation.”
