After 15 Years Abandonment, Wike Inaugurates Wuye Engineering Infrastructure
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday, inaugurated the newly completed engineering infrastructure in Wuye District.
Speaking at the ceremony, Wike described the milestone as a clear demonstration of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and his administration’s commitment to transforming Abuja through sustained infrastructural development.
“To the glory of God, today is the 20th day of our flag-off commissioning programs. I challenge anyone to show me any administration in the history of the FCT that has beaten this record under the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Wike said.
He emphasised that the successful completion of the Wuye project symbolized leadership that was both committed and people-focused, stressing that the Tinubu administration had revived projects long abandoned by previous governments.
The minister said, “This contract was awarded since 2009, but it was abandoned because contractors were not paid. When President Tinubu came into office on May 29, 2023, he said, ‘I have brought the Renewed Hope Agenda to the people.’ Within one year, he changed the story. This entire district — over 600 hectares, now has roads, water, and light. That is leadership.”
The Wuye district engineering infrastructure includes major arterial and collector roads, drainage networks, power lines, and water distribution systems, all designed to make the area fully functional and habitable.

Wike boasted that the pace of progress under Tinubu’s leadership was unmatched in the city’s history.
“What does this show? It shows a leadership that is willing to change lives. Those who are not happy with our progress will never be happy in their live. Everywhere you go as an FCT staff, carry your shoulder high. Tell the opposition to come and see that the FCT is working,” Wike said
He commended Arab Contractors Nigeria Limited, the project contractor, for their dedication despite outstanding payments, describing them as a dependable partner in the FCT’s development journey.
“I know we are still owing, but you gave me your word. You said, ‘Mr. Minister, we trust you, we believe in your government, and you went ahead to deliver. I thank you sincerely. What you have done here and in Kuje shows the difference this administration has made. The difference is clear,” Wike stated.

The Minister also reiterated his political loyalty to President Tinubu, and affirmed that his support is unwavering for those who align with the administration’s vision.
“If you are supporting Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, I will support you. Very soon, there will be a political tsunami. Those standing with the President will have my full backing,” Wike said.
He further announced plans to shift focus to education after the current phase of project commissioning, noting that development must extend beyond roads and infrastructure.
“Twenty days of commissioning is not two days,” he said adding, “Now I will rest a bit and focus on education, to show what we are doing to reform schools and improve learning across the FCT.”
In her remarks, the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, described the commissioning as another milestone in the administration’s drive to deliver comfort and dignity to residents of the territory.
“This project is about giving communities the infrastructure they deserve and the comfort they have long awaited. As we celebrate this achievement, let us remember that every milestone is a promise kept, and every completion is a new beginning.”
