The All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed that its leadership is engaging the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as part of efforts to resolve the political crisis in Rivers State.
The APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, disclosed this on Thursday during an interview on TVC News’ Beyond The Headlines, citing Wike’s strong support for the ruling party’s re-emergence in 2027 despite not being a registered member of the party.
“Of course, as you know, Wike is an avowed supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, even though not a member of the political party.

He described Rivers State as critical to President Tinubu’s political success, adding that Wike was already being engaged in efforts to achieve an amicable resolution of the crisis.

Basiru also noted that the ongoing consultations were confidential, stressing that not all measures being taken would be disclosed publicly.
THE WHISTLER reports that the crisis began when the Rivers State House of Assembly asked the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Simeon Amadi, to constitute a panel to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu.
The lawmakers, through a unanimous vote, insisted that the impeachment process would proceed, citing alleged attempts by the governor to intimidate and blackmail the legislature.
Following the Assembly’s request, a Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt issued an interim order restraining the Chief Judge from accepting any impeachment notice against Governor Fubara and his deputy.
The court also adjourned indefinitely the suit filed by Fubara and Odu challenging the impeachment process initiated by the Speaker and 26 other lawmakers.

Speaking, Basiru assured Nigerians and the people of Rivers State that the crisis would be resolved amicably, without winners or losers, adding that details of the resolution would be made public in the coming days.
Responding to criticisms that the APC is largely an elite party dominated by governors and political heavyweights, Basiru said the growing influx into the party reflects its political goodwill and ideology.
“Our tradition is socio-democratic and pro-people. We are mobilising and conscientising Nigerians, showing them why the APC is the party to be in. The masses are joining our party in large numbers,” he said.
