C’River To Demolish PDP Deputy Guber Candidate’s House After THE WHISTLER Interview

The Cross River State Government has marked for demolition a property belonging to the Deputy Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alphonsus Ogar Eba, days after he granted an exclusive interview to THE WHISTLER in which he delivered a blistering assessment of Governor Bassey Otu’s administration.

Eba, a former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State, was instrumental in the political process that produced Otu as governor in 2023 before leaving the ruling party and emerging as the PDP’s deputy governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 election.

In the interview, Eba questioned the governor’s record after three years in office, saying, “My assessment of the performance of the governor in the last three years will be nothing different from what majority of Cross Riverians are already saying and demanding, which is simply: ‘Mr Governor, show us your scorecard.'”

He also claimed that projects initiated by the immediate past administration had been abandoned, asking, “How come the Ogoja Rice Mill that we were eating during Ayade’s tenure has gone silent for three years under your tenure?”

Speaking on his relationship with Governor Otu, Eba alleged that he had worked tirelessly for the governor’s emergence but had been disappointed by the administration’s performance.

“We supported him without conditions. All we wanted was development of Cross River State,” he said, adding, “I don’t need to waste my time with such a leader.”

The PDP deputy governorship candidate further declared that accountability would become a major issue in the 2027 governorship election, insisting, “What we demand from Governor Otu is accountability, integrity and transparency.”

Asked whether the governor’s political future could be affected, Eba replied, “If he wants another term, he must show Cross Riverians what he has achieved.”

On Monday, Eba confirmed to THE WHISTLER that officials of the Cross River State Planning and Development Control Taskforce had marked his property for demolition.

Photographs seen by THE WHISTLER show a banner with the inscription CRS/PDCT/043 displayed at the property. The notice reads: “Demolition Notice. By order of the Cross River State Planning and Development Control Taskforce. All work on this property must stop immediately. Violators will be prosecuted.”

When contacted after the notice was served, Eba confirmed the development but declined to make any further comments.

As of the time of filing this report, the government had not publicly stated the reason the property was marked for demolition, and THE WHISTLER could not independently determine whether the action was connected to any alleged planning or development violations.

Efforts to obtain comments from the Cross River State Planning and Development Control Taskforce were unsuccessful.

Messages sent to the Cross River State Commissioner for Information, Raja Erasmus seeking the government’s reaction had not been responded to as of the time this report was filed.
