Emirate Tussle: Why We Won’t Obey Governor Yusuf’s Order To Evict Deposed Emir – Kano Police CP

The Kano State Police Commissioner, AIG Usaini Gumel, has explained why the police did not comply with Governor Abba Yusuf’s directive to evict the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, from the Nasarawa mini palace.

On Thursday night, Governor Yusuf, through State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice Haruna Dederi, instructed the Police Commissioner to evict the deposed emir.

However, Gumel told Punch on Friday that executing the eviction order would be “jumping the gun,” adding that carrying out the eviction before the court hearing could pre-empt the court’s decision.

“The police will not evict the deposed Emir because the same government has filed a case at the State High Court on the eviction order, which would come up on Monday, 24th June 2024.

“The government is jumping the gun because the same government has filed a case on the eviction order, which is coming up on the 24th of June, 2024. So, if we carry out the order, it is like we are pre-empting the court because we don’t know what will happen at the court,” Gumel said.

Meanwhile, security has been reportedly heightened around the Nasarawa mini palace, with all four major routes to the palace blocked. Bayero remains in the palace with his guards and supporters.

THE WHISTLER reported that the Kano State government confirmed that Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II remains the Emir of Kano following a ruling delivered earlier on Thursday by the Federal High Court, presided over by Justice Abdullahi Muhammad Liman.

The ruling addressed the ongoing litigation concerning the abolition of the five emirates and the deposition of the former emirs, including the emir of eight metropolitan local governments.

This is contrary to reports that the court nullified the law that set up the Emirates which by implication sacked Sanusi’s second installation as emir.
