Fayose Berates Bode George Over Comment On Edo Poll

A former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has berated ex-Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Bode George, for allegedly twisting his comment for political gains on the Edo State governorship election.

Fayose said he was unperturbed that George deliberately read a different meaning to what he said in order to make political gains.

The former governor had granted an interview to a television station where he said the former PDP deputy national chairman twisted his words.

Fayose in a series of tweets said although he was not a fan of Governor Godwin Obaseki and the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, Obaseki would still win.

Recall that Obaseki defected to the PDP from the APC as a fallout of the lingering battle between him and Oshiomhole while a former governorship candidate of the PDP, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, crossed to APC to become the candidate of the party in the poll holding on September 19.

George said, “I find it completely unacceptable. How can a committed member (Fayose) who has benefited immensely from the party pitch his tenth against our own candidate in Edo State?

“I am countering such remarks by telling the people of Edo State that we, members of the PDP in the South-West, are in support of Obaseki. We pray for him and we will work and support him to win the election.”

While reacting to George’s comment, Fayose said the PDP chieftain lacked the moral justification to accuse him of anti-party comment because he said worse things against the PDP candidates in the governorship polls in Ekiti, Osun and Rivers states.

Fayose’s tweets read, ‘I just read the response of Chief Bode George to his understanding of what I said concerning the Edo State election.  Even though I won’t like to dignify him with a response,  it is important that I set the records straight because it appears that he may have deliberately read different meanings to what political gains he wants to make out of it and I care less.

“My position is that, for obvious reasons, I am not a fan of both Gov Obaseki and Oshiomhole. That notwithstanding, I believe that Obaseki will win, but he should honour his agreement with the PDP by not returning to APC after assuming office for the second term for flimsy excuses.

“It is equally important for Chief Bode George to know that I am not the mouthpiece of South-West PDP. I speak for myself and I take responsibility for whatever I say.

“Above all,  we still remember his negative statement concerning PDP on Ekiti,  Osun and Rivers States elections. We still have the audio and it is a reference point that we will never forget. Pa Bode George should take a rest now.”
